At the Pine Shop in Pembroke, Corey and Carrie Calow use local, sustainably managed wood sourced from producers within the Ottawa Valley, to make bedroom furniture, dining sets, picture frames, kitchen cabinetry and virtually any other “made with wood” furniture their customers can envision.
Using kiln-dried wood from native species such as pine, oak and maple, the couple specializes in custom orders. Their Laurentian Valley store, located at 1390 Pembroke Street West, showcases some ready-made stock available for purchase. Corey has also worked with customers who provide their own wood, including river-salvaged pine and milled wood harvested from their own properties. People have a connection with the material and the finished pieces tell a story for generations to come.
Corey and Carrie have owned the Pine Shop for three years after taking over a long-established business, but Corey has always loved working with wood. Much of their business comes from return customers. They source the wood for their furniture from local sources because they like to support the community they live in. The communication and working together with other local businesses is a win-win for everyone involved.
