Ken Popkie founded Popkie Lumber & Sawmill with his father in 1974, at its current location in Laurentian Valley. Over the years, he has tried different avenues but always specialized in white pine lumber. Today, white pine makes up most of Ken’s inventory of lumber, log siding and standard pattern cuts. Wood is purchased from within a 50 mile radius and is sawn, graded and air-dried on site. Popkie Lumber offers FSC certified products, so customers can be assured that purchased wood was harvested from sustainable sources.
Lumber and value-added products, such as board and batten, tongue and groove, and Boston siding are sold in any quantity on-site. The millyard is immaculate and drop-ins are welcome during regular business hours. A look around the yard shows many examples of wood products produced in the yard – there are many examples of exterior pine siding on various buildings, as well as showroom that showcases even more.
Popkie Lumber yard is close to Pembroke and a great option for buying local. Ken believes that “people should have the freedom to buy where they can get the best price” and strives to keep his prices competitive.
You can buy products from Popkie Lumber in any quantity by dropping in Monday to Thursday 7-4:30. If you’re looking for something unique, it’s best to call ahead to check availability.
