In his teen years, he worked at local sawmills during the summers, and this passion prepared him to study forestry. Gerard enjoyed a 30 year career with the public service in forest management. After retirement his hobby lumber business flourished and to-day Gerard works at it full time and is assisted with his son Josh part-time. The Ostroskie’s harvest wood mostly from their own woodlots. They have forest management plans and are currently in the process of becoming FSC Certified – sustainable management of the resource is a top priority for them. Ostroskie and Sons have their own logging equipment and do some cutting and skidding themselves. The rest of the wood comes from other local private woodlots. They also hire local loggers and source other local private woodlots. The harvested wood is processed at local sawmills and then taken to their yard at Tramore for sorting, grading and air drying. Ostroskie’s specializes in eastern white cedar but also stock pine and other incidental species. Some of the lumber is sold rough, but the majority of the sales are in planed products for the end user. They stock at their yard clear (select) light weight canoe lumber, decking, balusters, paneling, siding, fence material, beams and landscape timbers. You can buy lumber and other wood products from Ostroskie’s by dropping by their yard or calling ahead. They pride themselves on being accessible and are at the lumber yard from 8 to 5, 6 days a week from April to November. Evening appointments are available. In the winter, they spend time in the woods logging so please call in advance to make arrangements. They fill orders of all sizes and delivery is an option. Available Products and Services: Cedar:
